Beautiful and edible. Not just for producing fruit, pomegranates are attractive shrubs as well, growing 5 to 6 feet tall and producing beautiful orange-red blooms from July to September. The orange-red, bell-shaped fruits that follow may be less sweet than those from the gorcery store, but are loaded with antioxidants. Favorite is one of the hardiest varieties available and has survived temperatures down to 10F. If planting outside, a sheltered area is best. For northern gardeners, pomegrannates can be grown in pots and brought inside for the winter to a location that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight per day. Prefers full sun to part shade and well-drained soil.
